Ukrainian Native, Employee Of Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Disappeared: Details Became Known

The Lukashists spoke about his brother, a major in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The ONT TV channel confirmed the detention of Andriy Shmai, a native of Chernihiv, who worked in the Vitebsk regional executive committee, was confirmed. He is suspected of "undercover activities" in favour of Ukraine.

Back in mid-February, the media reported the detention of the 36-year-old native of Chernihiv Andriy Shmay, an employee of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. Then it was reported that he had already been behind bars for a month, but the grounds for the detention of the Ukrainian suspect were previously unknown.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Belarusian KGB did not publicly comment on the situation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus also did not respond to the request by the Ukrainian embassy in Belarus and the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

ONT April 4 story confirmed that Mr Shmai was detained on January 19 and that he was suspected of "subversive activities" in favour of Ukraine.

The short movie story shows that even before moving to Vitebsk in 2013, Mr Shmai had been serving as an inspector at the Novi Yarylovychi, the Ukrainian-Belarusian border checkpoint, for seven years. He got a job in the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee as a repair worker and did not have access to documents. "But his ears and eyes heard and saw very well," propagandists said.

In addition, he allegedly ingratiated himself with the specialists of the committee and regularly sent information about the work of the department to his younger brother Ruslan since the autumn of last year, who serves in Chernihiv with the rank of major as deputy commander of the Department for Operational Issues, the North Operational Command.

His brother Ruslan, allegedly, was interested in information about "strengthening the regional executive committees" since "only employees who worked there" know about it, and he asked Andriy to report "changes in the situation".

As follows from the story, the brothers were using the Signal messenger. Ruslan asked Andriy to delete the received messages from time to time.

Now Andryi Shmai is detained in a pre-trial detention centre, a criminal case has been initiated against him under Art. 358-1 of the Criminal Code (Subversive Activities).
