Relatives of the Belarusian opposition leader received information about him for the first time in 95 days.
The leader of the Belarusian opposition, political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich, was transferred to an individual cell for six months.
Charter97.org with reference to the politician's wife Maryna Adamovich.
Maryna Adamovich said that for the first time in 95 days of uncertainty, she received a response from the administration of the colony where Mikalai Statkevich is serving his term.
It follows that 36 penalties were imposed on the opposition leader, including 14 in the form of placement in a punishment cell.
“Such weird ‘joys’ can happen in life! It turns out that even bad news can please you in some way. I received a response from the colony to my requests today. In just 95 days of complete ignorance.
Sure, this is not a letter from Mikalai and the news is not so good, still ... Anyone who knows nothing about his relatives will understand me.
36 penalties, 14 of them - punishment cell (5 - for the last three months, the period is not reported). He is likely in a punishment cell even now or just got out.
Once again, he was punished with six months in a 1x3 individual cell, the same as a ward-type room in a “regular” correctional colony. (The past six months have stretched for 9 months). This means that he is likely to be locked in a punishment cell or in a ‘stone bag’ around the clock with a half an hour walk a day there.
He’s deprived of everything: a single package and dates. Not to mention phone conversations.
Still no letters. However, they told me that my letters were "processed on time." Where are the results?! Also, they did not answer about Mikalai’s letters. "Correspondence is not prohibited," the message reads.
However, something has changed in the universe. The circle of our destinies is turning,” wrote Maryna Adamovich.
Mikalai Statkevich was sentenced to 14 years in prison, he was accused of “organizing mass riots” (Article 293 of the Criminal Code of Belarus).
Since the beginning of July 2022 and since Mikalai Statkevich began serving his sentence in the Hlybokae colony, he has had 23 penalties. At least 9 times he ended up in a punishment cell for periods of 7 to 10 days. The political prisoner celebrated the New Year in a punishment cell.
Mikalai Statkevich is kept in the colony under the most severe conditions: the politician is kept in an individual cell under conditions dangerous to health. It became known that Mikalai Statkevich had suffered COVID-19 twice while in prison.
