On a 500-600 km wide front, Russian troops are trapped.
The Russian command has set huge "cauldrons" for its army. Meanwhile, the AFU should not rush to launch an offensive in the same direction after the failure of Russians near Bakhmut.
This is what Roman Svitan, AFU reserve colonel, military expert and flight instructor, said in a daily report for Channel 24.
The Russian command has created "traps" for its army
The military expert notes that the events in the Belgorod region could occur because the Russian border has not switched to a combat mode. Even in the places where it borders Ukraine, against which Russia is at war.
"Moreover, the entire Russian army is now concentrated on the front in Ukraine. Consequently, the direction to the northeast, to Moscow, is completely open. One can go as far as the Ural Mountains and meet no barrier there," Roman Svitan says.
He claims that the Russian command has virtually driven its entire combat army into a "trap" since the start of the war against Ukraine. Moreover, almost all the military has been deployed along the coastline.
"Somewhere in the width of 500-600 kilometres, they are pushed against the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. One could not find a worse location for the troops", a retired AFU colonel assures.
The specialist sneers that the enemy generals' actions look as if they have been ordered to destroy the Russian army. That is why they started doing it back on February 24, 2022, when they stretched the front line 2,500 kilometres.
"Then they drove all the remnants of the army together with the mobilized and the remnants of equipment into a trap near the Sea of Azov. One should get a medal for the destruction of the Russian army. If we came up with it, we couldn't even implement it," Roman Svitan said.
He believes that Russian partisan movements are now significantly helping the Ukrainian Defence Forces. After all, they are again forcing the Russians to stretch the troops to a much greater length of front.
"Only when Russian troops move into the Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions will our breakthroughs begin. Then they will have flames everywhere - both on our frontline and in the expanses of Russia," the military expert says.
Liberating territories in defence mode
Commenting on the Bakhmut issue, the military expert notes the liberation of the city is not a matter now, as it has been completely destroyed. The retention of commanding heights matters. Therefore, the best option for the AFU is to continue to hold the heights around Bakhmut.
"The task is not to surround Bakhmut and destroy Russian troops but to take commanding heights. This is the key objective of any army that is on the defensive at a particular stage," Roman Svitan stressed.
He says the AFU are attacking near Bakhmut not to break the positions of the Russian troops but to take commanding heights and hold the defence.
"It is not advantageous to attack in the Donbas from near Bakhmut for various reasons. There are several lines there that are practically impossible to pass. It is more advantageous for us to occupy the Horlivka - Kurdyumivka - Chasov Yar - Verkhovka - Soledar - Seversk line," noted the AFU reserve colonel.
He says that it was the defence line before winter. The Ukrainian troops did not let Russians advance towards Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
