New Verdict Against Bakiyev - He’s Hiding In Belarus

The fugitive former president of Kyrgyzstan was sentenced to another 10 years in prison.
The fugitive President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev was sentenced in absentia to another 10 years in prison under Part 2 of Article 336 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic (Corruption). The verdict was issued by the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek, Tazabek writes.
“He was sentenced to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold public office for a period of three years,” the resource writes.
By partial addition of punishment, he was finally sentenced to 30 years in a high-security prison with confiscation of property, with deprivation of the right to hold public office for a period of three years.
The case is related to the Kumtor gold deposit. The investigation believes that the former leaders of the country entered into agreements unfavourable with Canadian companies to Kyrgyzstan.
Recall that after the April events of 2010, Kurmanbek Bakiyev fled Kyrgyzstan and, at the invitation of Lukashenka, settled in Belarus. Kyrgyzstan put him on the wanted list.
