UN Adds Russian Army To ‘List Of Shame’

António Guterres indicates the reasons.

António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has included the Russian army on the list of shame and said that Russia is responsible for the deaths of 136 children in Ukraine in 2022, Reuters reports, citing the UN annual report.

According to Reuters, next week the document will be sent to the members of the UN Security Council. In the report, Guterres said he was "particularly shocked" by the high number of children killed and maimed and attacks on schools and hospitals by Russian armed forces.

According to the UN, 477 children were killed in Ukraine in 2022. However, it was possible to get evidence of the involvement of the Russian army in the deaths only in 136 cases, another 80 children died due to the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Also, 909 children received various injuries during the war, 518 of them suffered from the actions of the Russian army, and another 175 were injured as a result of the actions of the Ukrainian forces.

Also, Russian troops attacked schools and hospitals in Ukraine 480 times and used 91 children as human shields.

In May, the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) confirmed the deaths of 8,895 civilians in Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.

“OHCHR believes that the actual number of civilian deaths or injuries is much higher, as many reports from places where such cases have taken place still require additional confirmation, while information from some places where fighting continues, is delayed,” the UN Human Rights Office said.

In March, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Children's Ombudsman of Russia Maria Lvova-Belova. They are suspected of the illegal deportation of children from the occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia.
