AFU Make Breakthrough In Melitopol Direction Preparing Bridgehead For Offensive Near Avdiivka

Ukrainian troops have significantly advanced along the Zaporizhzhia front.

Ukrainian defence forces have advanced by 1,700 meters towards Melitopol along the Zaporizhzhia front during the week. At the same time, other units of the defenders are preparing a bridgehead to expand offensive operations in the Avdiivka direction.

The enemy is suffering losses on both parts of the front, but at the same time does not stop shelling our troops. This was told at a briefing by the Deputy Director of the Department of Planning for Application of the Main Directorate of the National Guard, Colonel Nikolai Urshalovich.

Melitopol and Berdyansk Directions

The units of the 15th operational brigade of the National Guard "Kara-Dag" in co-operation with the Armed Forces continue to conduct offensive actions towards Melitopol.

"During the reporting period, the brigade's assault groups, supported by tanks, advanced 1,700 metres to the south and south-east. Our units are advancing in conditions of dense enemy mining and heavy fire. This means 213 shellings from MLRS, tanks, artillery and six air strikes. This is only for the week that passed," Urshalovich explained.

According to him, during this time the occupants were conducting counter-offensives and tried to restore the lost position, but they did not succeed.

The NGU representative also added that the Guards continue to hold their positions under constant enemy fire in the Berdyansk direction. Last week, Russian troops launched about 50 artillery strikes on Ukrainian fighters there.

Avdiivka Direction

Urshalovich noted that the AFU repulsed regular attacks of the occupants near Avdiivka and are preparing a bridgehead to expand their offensives.

"Losses of positions and territories have not been allowed. The enemy is attacking constantly, making sorties, but his attempts have no success. National Guard units hold the initiative and are preparing a bridgehead to expand and continue offensive actions," he explained.

He also added that the Guardsmen destroyed a Russian tank and its crew with a Javelin in the Avdiivka direction.

A week later, Ukrainian soldiers liquidated 58 occupants there and wounded nine more Russian soldiers.
