The strike was carried out by Turkish drones with the tacit Kremlin’s approval.
The Russian Wagner PMC faces serious problems abroad after the failure of the Prigozhin rebellion.
The Libyan base of the Russian mercenaries was destroyed.
Local news publisher Arabi21 reported, citing sources close to the Libyan Ministry of Defence.
It is reported that the Wagner base, which is located 150 km south of the large city of Benghazi, was subjected to an air raid.
The strike was allegedly carried out by Turkish-made Akıncı strike drones.
They also noted that the UN-recognized Libyan Government of National Unity, which has been leading the country since 2021, is behind the attack. Turkey is its key ally.
Russian blogger Anatoly Nesmiyan commented on the developments.
He believes that Ankara is behind the attack, which had a big grudge against Wagner in Libya.
“Partner Recep did something nice for partner Vladimir, and nice for him too: Wagner almost broke into Tripoli a few years ago and actually forced Turkey to intervene in Libya, which Erdogan completely did not want to do. But I had to. Now the interests of the two dictators have converged, and Erdogan is happy to return the favor,” the expert wrote.
Apparently, the Wagner group base was destroyed at least with tacit Kremlin’s approval.
Previously, the Kremlin used the mercenaries for unofficial participation in conflicts, promoting its interests abroad with the help force.
However, after the rebellion and the march of the militants to Moscow, the situation changed dramatically. Recently there was information that the military police of the Russian Federation arrested all of the PMCs top leaders in Syria. Reportedly, at least 4 high-ranking Wagnerites were detained.
