Yauhen Afnahel Was Locked Up In Punishment Cell So That He Would Not Meet His 87-Year-Old Mother

The leader of the European Belarus is in Mahiliou prison.

Political prisoner Yauhen Afnahel, one of the leaders of the European Belarus Civil Campaign was thrown into a punishment cell to disrupt a meeting with his 87-year-old mother, Charter97.org reports.

The political prisoner, jailed in Mahiliou prison #4, is entitled to one short visit a year. Yauhen Afnahel's mother had previously come to the Department of Corrections and the officials assured her that she could go to visit her son.

She arrived in Mahiliou this morning and jailors told her that Yauhen was in the punishment cell until July 23. It’s really hard for the old lady to travel from Minsk to Mahiliou. Her blood pressure soared and she felt bad.

On May 25, 2021, Yauhen Afnahel was sentenced to 7 years in a high-security prison.

He served time in Navapolatsk Colony #1, and then the imprisonment regime was strengthened and he was transferred to Mahiliou Prison #4. During his time in prison, Yauhen's eyesight deteriorated.
