Lukashenka's services are trying to recruit Lithuanian citizens.
Lithuanian border guards set up signs urging people not to enter Belarus. The State Security Department (VSD) also warned against travelling to our country, according to Delfi.
There are inscriptions in two languages - Lithuanian and English. “Do not risk your safety - do not travel to Belarus. You may fail to come back,” the inscription reads.
The State Security Department noted that the Belarusian services are trying to recruit Lithuanian citizens in different ways. They are also carefully interrogated at the border with the help of blackmail and psychological pressure in order to make them cooperate with Belarusian intelligence.
“They check smartphones, computers, phone contacts, profiles on social media, photos, routes on maps of Lithuanian citizens entering Belarus. During such interrogations, Belarusian services collect information about the political views of people and their jobs and try to identify with employees of the State Border Guard Service (VSAT), law enforcers and intelligence services. The State Security Service knows cases when Lithuanian residents were recruited using blackmail and psychological pressure, they said that they would lift the ban on entry into Belarus if people agreed to cooperate with the Belarusian intelligence,” the officials said.
The head of the VSD, Rustamas Liubajevas, said that about 52,000 Lithuanians travel to Belarus every month. This figure includes all groups of citizens: both those who travel for work and those who drive heavy vehicles.
“Today we want to repeat once again that every citizen of Lithuania who travels to Belarus must seriously assess all the risks and make a responsible decision - to go or not to go,” the General said.
