Success At Berdyansk Direction: AFU Break Through Last 'Surovikin Line'

The Ukrainian army has cut into the Russian defence on the flanks of the Staromayorske protrusion.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' buckling in the Russian defence line is gradually growing thanks to effective planning of the operation. The Ukrainian army is strengthening its positions on the flanks of the Staromayorske protrusion in order to continue offensive operations.

This was reported to Channel 24 by the head of the Centre for military-legal research, military expert Oleksandr Musienko. He believes that before further advancing into the "Surovikin line" the AFU may focus on expanding the bridgehead in the Berdyansk direction.

Recently it became known that the AFU is close to liberating Urozhayne, located on the Berdyansk direction.

It needs to be de-occupied, because the enemy shelled Staromayorske from positions in this village. In the last two weeks, the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted an operation across the Mokry Yaly River, which separates the two villages.

"After Ukraine liberates Urozhayne, the enemy will no longer have a bridgehead allowing them to counterattack our positions. This will help the AFU to prepare for a further offensive on Zavetne Zhelanie and Staromlynivka," the military expert suggested.

It is in the area of the latter that the so-called "Surovikin Line" is located, which may become the last Russian frontier before a larger advance by the AFU.

Other Actions We Can Expect From AFU

Another important section of the Berdyansk direction is located near Priyutne. As a result of the Ukrainian offensive, a protrusion has formed there. Given this, it is important for the Armed Forces to achieve front alignment, because otherwise the enemy can strike from the flanks.

Therefore, Musienko assumes that further operations in the Berdyansk direction will focus not only on liberating Staromlynivka, but also on occupying Priyutne.

"As of now, we can say that the Armed Forces have created a gap in the Russians' defence, which is enough for a cautious expansion of the bridgehead," Musienko suggested.

Despite the enemy is suffering noticeable losses, its combat effectiveness has not significantly decreased. That is why the Russians are offering stubborn resistance both in Berdyansk and Melitopol directions. Painstaking work is continuing to liberate the Ukrainian South, metre by metre.
