‘KGBist Took Ideologist Post And He’s Checking Personnel Files’

Andrei Ashurak about mass detentions in Bairozauka.

Detentions have been going on in Bairozauka (Lida district of the Hrodna region) since last week. Andrei Ashurak, an activist from Bairozauka, is abroad now and he told BPN about this.

Citing his sources, Andrei Ashurak said that since Sunday, August 13, six people have been arrested there, but not all names are known. Also, the circumstances and grounds for detention have not yet been established.

Also, three employees of the local Neman Glass Factory were arrested last week.

“A KGBist took an ideologist post at the factory last week. He is not a local one. He’s checking personnel files now,” the activist said.

Andrei Ashurak is the brother of local activist Vitold Ashurak, who was sentenced to five years in prison in January 2021, and died in May of the same year under unclear circumstances in the Shklou penal colony.
