Criminal Case Filed Against Daughter Of Belarusian Journalist Dzmitry Lupach

The girl is in pre-trial detention centre.

A criminal case under Article 342 of the Criminal Code has been opened against Sviatlana, the daughter of journalist Dzmitry Lupach. She is in pre-trial detention centre, reports Vitsebsk Viasna.

Sviatlana and her friends were detained in early May in Hlubokaye district, where they were on holiday. The friends were soon released, while Sviatlana was sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest under the article on distribution of extremist materials. Later she was also fined under the same article.

After that, a criminal case was opened against Sviatlana, she was transferred to the pre-trial detention centre. At the end of July, the defence tried to challenge the preventive measure. The court hearing was held behind closed doors, and Sviatlana was left in the pre-trial detention centre. The defence lawyer signed a non-disclosure agreement, so the details of the case are unknown.

Hlubokaye journalist Dzmitry Lupach was detained several times after 2020. Now he is abroad.
