US Embassy In Minsk Publishes Warning To American Citizens

This time it was due to the closure of two checkpoints.

A warning about possible difficulties with leaving Belarus was published for its citizens by the US Embassy in Minsk.

The diplomats reminded that on August 18, Lithuania closed two border crossings with Belarus.

“Currently, four border crossings are open. The Polish, Lithuanian, and Latvian governments have stated that further closures of border crossings with Belarus are possible,” the warning reads.

The diplomatic mission advised US citizens not to enter Belarus due to “arbitrary enforcement of local laws”, as well as continued facilitation by the Belarusian authorities to “an unprovoked Russian attack on Ukraine”, which limits the ability of the embassy in Minsk to provide consular assistance to its citizens.

The Americans who are now in Belarus have been advised to “leave the country immediately” for the same reasons.

In February last year, the US Embassy in Minsk also issued a warning to its citizens. At that time, the fears of diplomats were related to the fact that due to a full-scale Russian invasion, American citizens could have difficulty leaving Belarus.
