Not Storm Shadow: Weapon Used By Ukraine To Strike Russian S-400 'Triumf' In Crimea Becomes Known

The weapon was programmed in a special way.

The strike on the Russian air defence station in Crimea, during which the 48Ya6-K1 "Podlet" air reconnaissance radar and the launcher of the S-400 "Triumph" surface-to-air missile system were destroyed, was carried out by the "Neptune" cruise missile of the AFU Naval Forces.

This was reported by Yuri Butusov, editor-in-chief of the Censor.net portal.

He noted that the destroyed radar was supposed to provide surveillance of both low-altitude targets and ballistic missiles attacking from high altitude.

"The radar provided control of the air situation over the western part of the Black Sea and over the territory of Kherson region from a distance of about 110 kilometres from the front line," the journalist noted.

However, the Ukrainian defenders still managed to bypass this system. According to Butusov, the Navy used a new cruise missile of the Neptun ground-based missile system to hit the radar and programmed its route so as to bypass the Russian surveillance system.

"One Neptun missile passed undetected at ultra-low altitude and accurately destroyed the Podlet radar despite the large Russian air defence forces concentrated in the occupied Kherson region and Crimea," Butusov writes.

Also noteworthy is the fact that the moment of the strike was recorded by a Ukrainian spy drone, which flew unnoticed far to the rear of the Russians. Consequently, the praised Russian radar was unable to spot either the missile or the drone.

"Even during the war, Russia continues to supply Triumf SAMs and Podlet radars to Turkey and India under old contracts. But Russian military technology in this case is obviously inferior to Ukrainian military technology," the journalist said.
