Activists In Vilnius Demand Release Of Belarusian Political Prisoners

The activists gathered on one of the central streets of the city.

On Sunday, August 27, a rally of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners was held in Vilnius, the Charter-97% Telegram channel reports.

Activists gathered on one of the central streets of the city and raised posters with photos and names of the prisoners. Among them were Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk, Maryja Kalesnikava, Mikalai Statkevich and others.

The protesters demanded the immediate release of all political prisoners in Belarus and an end to violence by the Lukashenka regime.

It is important to note that there are much more political prisoners in Belarus than the figure presented by human rights organizations. The Investigative Committee announced more than 10,000 protest-oriented criminal cases, which allows us to assess the real scale of repression.

Human rights activists are simply not able to count the number of political prisoners in Belarus, and there are many questions about the criteria they use in assessing people who are thrown behind bars today.
