Drones Destroyed Russian Airbase, GRU Special Forces And Airborne Forces In Pskov

A large-scale fire is raging at military facilities in the city.

Pskov military facilities were attacked by kamikaze drones: four Il-76 aircraft were damaged.

On the night of August 29-30, two dozen unknown drones attacked military facilities in the Russian city of Pskov. There were explosions and shootings, and a fire broke out at the Kresty military airbase.

Observers and Russian media reported. According to the latter, as a result of the UAV attack, at least four Il-76 military transport aircraft of the 334th Troop Carrier Regiment were damaged.

“The strikes damaged four Il-76 aircraft. A fire started, two aircraft were burning,” the media reported. Only up to five such aircraft per year are produced in the Russian Federation.

The sky over Pskov and the surrounding regions was completely closed. Fire and smoke were rising at the international airport site, the entrances were blocked.

“Preliminarily, one of the drones hit the bulk fuel installations of the Pskov airport,” media reported.

There were at least five strong explosions in total, Pskovskaya Guberniya reports. Fire crews arrived at the scene. Sources of the publication claim that the target of the attack could also be the oil depot in Kresty (“Razdolie”).

Eyewitnesses speak about a fire in the area of military base #64044: This is the territory of the 2nd GRU [ Russia's military intelligence agency - Ed.] Special Forces Brigade in Promezhytsy. These troops participated in the attack on Ukraine.

The governor of the Pskov region, Mikhail Vedernikov, said that the Russian Ministry of Defence "repelled the drone attack on Pskov." Later, the governor wrote that all flights at the Pskov airport were canceled until Thursday.

Local residents reported bursts of machine-gun fire as the Russian military tried to shoot down the drones.

Later, in the area of the Pskov airport, they heard another explosion and gun bursts.

The Edelweiss plan was launched after the explosions in Pskov: it provides for combat readiness of MIA personnel. It is reported that the special services were transferred to enhanced mode, and most of the security forces cordoned off the airport.

The 334th Berlin Red Banner Military Transport Aviation Regiment is located in Pskov. Their military facilities are also located there. Apparently, they became the targets.

At the same time, another possible target is the Cherekhinskaya military base, where the 104th Guards Air Assault Regiment is located, which in 2022 took part in the atrocities in Bucha.

Recall that this night drones dealt powerful strikes in six regions of Russia and in Sevastopol.
