Explosion At Plant Producing ‘Iskanders’ In Russia

In Udmurtia (RF) on August 4, an explosion occurred at the Votkinsk Machine-Building Plant in workshop # 95. This is reported by the Telegram channel “Udmurtia against corruption”.
It is noted that at first it was assumed that the plant was attacked with a drone, but then they figured out that during the tests the product that was in the armored capsule exploded. The building of the workshop, in which the test was carried out, withstood, but was damaged.
“One of the buildings was damaged, in which missiles were assembled to be sent to the war in Ukraine. No one was seriously injured in the explosion. Even the ambulance left empty,” a source at the company said.
In the comments under the message, local residents write that the workshop was secret and the workers were without mobile communications, so they expressed doubts that there were no victims of the explosion, because the smoke was seen outside the city.
Later, the plant officially commented on the emergency.

“Today (August 4, 2023) on the territory of the production site of JSC Votkinsk Plant, the equipment was triggered, accompanied by a bang and smoke. None of the company's employees were injured. There is no threat to life and health. The company's divisions are operating normally,” the statement said.
According to data from open sources, the Votkinsk plant, which was founded in 1759, produced Topol-M rockets, and in 2006 mass production of Iskander-M missiles was launched.
On June 2, 2022, the Votkinsk plant was included in the US sanctions list due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On July 5, it was included in the sanctions list of Japan. On December 16, 2022, the plant was included in the EU sanctions list due to the production of missiles and ammunition for the Iskander and Tochka-U complexes. Also, the plant is under the sanctions of Ukraine and Sweden.
