WSJ: It’s Historical First Joint Russia And China Unprecedented Military Step Against US

US experts assessed the scale of the provocation.

Russia and China sent a group of eleven warships to the coast of Alaska earlier this week.

According to The Wall Street Journal, citing US experts, it was the largest naval movement near American shores.

According to the WSJ, the vessels patrolled the Aleutian Islands and did not enter American territorial waters. The US sent four destroyers and P-8 Poseidon aircraft to monitor the navy.

The US command confirmed that the warships of Russia and China moved together off the coast of the United States, but did not specify where exactly they were, and the number of warships, adding that the patrol did not pose a threat.

Brent Sadler, a senior research fellow at the Heritage Foundation and a retired US Navy captain, called the incident the "historical first" case.

"Given the context of the war in Ukraine and the tensions around Taiwan, this move is highly provocative," he added.

Dan Sullivan, the US senator from Alaska and a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, called the appearance of warships off the coast of the United States a reminder of a "new era of authoritarian aggression."
