They are tightening control at the Belarusian border by starting to check the smartphone IMEI numbers, Nasha Niva found out. Those who have been brought to administrative responsibility under “political” reasons in recent years, as well as those, who often travel abroad and use foreign SIM cards, and also foreigners, primarily Ukrainians, are at risk.

You can usually enter the phone's "personal data" menu by entering *#06#. The IMEI code is unique for each device, it is used to identify the phone within networks.

Mobile operators have information about links of devices with SIM cards. So, in particular, they can find thieves and stolen smartphones as soon as a stolen device with a particular IMEI number appears on a network.

Belarusian mobile providers keep complete data on the appearance of devices in their zones of mobile communication on the basis of both SIM cards and IMEI numbers. Both SIM cards and IMEI numbers can be used to reconstruct the route of movement across the country of any device its owner.

It is possible to identify devices that appeared in a certain mobile zone at a certain time using IMEI numbers.
