It Had 320 Missiles: First Rank Captain Tells About Features Of ‘Minsk’ Landing Ship Destroyed In Sevastopol

Ships of this type were used by the enemy during the assault on Mariupol.

During a night attack on Russian ships in temporarily occupied Sevastopol on September 13, in particular, the large landing ship Minsk, project 775, was destroyed. Its defeat will significantly complicate the position of the Russian occupiers.

As Captain First Rank of the Ukrainian Navy Reserve Andriy Ryzhenko noted in an interview with UNIAN, this is a fairly common ship. It can carry a company of Marines (about 120 men) and about 14 armored vehicles such as armored personnel carriers. The Russians really need such a unit — in particular, at the beginning of a full-scale war, they transferred six additional landing ships to the Black Sea Fleet from the Northern Fleet and the Baltic Fleet.

“I would like to remind you that the Minsk ship has a Grad multiple launch rocket system on its bow, and it fires these unguided missiles at a distance of at least 25 kilometers. It also has 320 missiles. And, in principle, one ship can inflict a serious defeat, for example, on the forces liberating our Azov region in particular. By the way, the Russians used such ships during the assault on Mariupol last year,” he noted.

According to Ryzhenko, Minsk is the third Russian ship that has been virtually destroyed. It and the large landing craft “Olenegorsky Gornyak” received very serious damage. It will be difficult to restore them.

“Moreover, they are of Polish construction, therefore Polish spare parts are needed, and now it is impossible to obtain them. There are also no prospects for restoring or building new such ships, because they were built in Poland. Due to the absence of these ships, it will be more difficult for Russia to conduct landing operations and provide fire support to its occupation forces during the defense of coastal areas,” summed up the reserve captain of the first rank of the Ukrainian Navy.
