The enemy's left flank was destroyed.
The counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Melitopol direction continues. The Ukrainian military broke through the Russian defenses in Verbove, Zaporizhzhia region.
This was announced by the commander of the Tavria group of troops, Brigadier General Oleksandr Tarnavsky, in an interview with CNN.
“We have a breakthrough on the left flank (near Verbove) and we continue to advance further,” he said.
Tarnavsky noted that Ukrainian troops are not moving as quickly as expected, as “in the movies about World War II.”
“The main thing is not to lose this initiative. And, well, don’t lose it in practice, through actions,” the general added.
According to Tarnavsky, a big breakthrough in the counteroffensive could occur after the Ukrainian defenders liberate Tokmak, Zaporizhzhia region. This city is the strategic center for Russia. As CNN notes, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are now approximately 20 kilometers from Tokmak.
