A powerful explosion took place in Russia's Rostov-on-Don in the morning of Thursday, September 7. Propagandists reported that it was heard around 3:30 and a fire started at the site. The regional governor said two UAVs were allegedly shot down, Ukrainian media reported.
Russian propaganda Telegram channels published photos and videos from the scene of the incident. The explosion took place in Pushkinskaya Street.
The headquarters of the Southern Military District is allegedly located near the site of the explosion.
The Southern Military District is a military-administrative unit of the Armed Forces of the aggressor country Russia, intended for the defence of the south of the European part of the Russian Federation. The headquarters of the district is stationed in Rostov-on-Don.
The footage shows that the explosion was very strong, a fire started, and there were clouds of smoke. The UAV allegedly fell on a car.
Residents of Rostov-on-Don reported in comments to the media that a total of "three loud bangs" were heard, after which a column of smoke rose in the area of Pushkinskaya Street.
At the same time, the governor of Rostov region, Vasily Golubev, said that around 3:00 "the air defence system" allegedly "worked" in Rostov. According to the occupants' representative, two UAVs were shot down.
One of the drones allegedly fell in the centre, near 42 Pushkinskaya Street. As a result, several passenger cars were damaged. One person was injured, he refused hospitalisation. Later it became known that windows in at least three buildings were knocked out.
"According to preliminary data, the downed drone fell on a parked car. Windows have been smashed out of a building standing nearby. Rescuers have already extinguished the burning car," Russian media wrote.
