Belarus Withdraws From International Anti-Corruption Treaties

Lukashenka has signed the scandalous "law".

Aliaksandr Lukashenka has signed the law on denunciation of some international treaties in the fight against corruption, adopted by the "parliament". The document is published on the National Legal Internet Portal.

The "law" provides for the denunciation of the Convention on Criminal Liability for Corruption of 27 January 1999, its additional protocol, the Convention on Civil Liability for Corruption of November 4, 1999.

Also, the agreement between Belarus and the Council of Europe on privileges and immunities of representatives of the members of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) and members of its inspection teams will be terminated.

We remind the «parliament» voted for withdrawal from international agreements on fighting corruption on November 22 last year.

Representing it, Prosecutor General Andrei Shved said that the denunciation of the conventions is related to the procedure of Belarus' withdrawal from GRECO, which monitors the implementation of the Criminal Law Convention on Corruption. The termination of the agreement on privileges and immunities of representatives of GRECO members cancels the obligation to provide them with favourable working conditions in Belarus.
