LEV RUBINSTEIN

He supported the protests in Belarus.

Poet and journalist Lev Rubinstein died in Moscow at the age of 76. His daughter Maria reported his death on the morning of January 14.

“My dad, Lev Rubinstein, died today,” she wrote on the morning of January 14 on LiveJournal.

On January 8, Rubinstein was hit by a car in Moscow. He was hospitalized at the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute for Emergency Medicine in serious condition. The poet was put into a therapeutic sleep after the surgery. On January 12, information about Rubinstein's death appeared in the media, but then relatives and doctors denied these reports. A criminal case was opened against the driver who shot down the poet.

Lev Rubinstein is one of the founders of Moscow conceptualism and the winner of the literary prize NOS. The poet received it in 2012 for the book "Signs of Attention".

Rubinstein's first works were published in Western countries, and he became available to Russian readers only in the late 1980s, with the era of glasnost. Among his books are "Signs of Attention", "Hat Chase and Other Texts", "A Whole Year. My Calendar" and "Home Music Making".

In September 2020, Rubinstein signed an open letter from Russian cultural figures in support of the protests in Belarus. In March 2022, he opposed the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
