'Damage Speaks About Only One Thing': AFU Major Reveals Weapon That Shot Down Russian Il-22

The enemy aircraft was literally "stuffed" after the strike.

On January 14, the Ukrainian military shot down a Russian A-50 spy plane and hit an Il-22.

The nature of the latter's damage suggests that it could have been attacked by an anti-aircraft missile, military expert, veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war and NSU reserve major Oleksiy Getman said.

"Such damage indicates only one thing, that it was attacked by an anti-aircraft missile. An anti-aircraft missile is stuffed with a variety of striking factors: spokes, metal balls, cubes," he explained on the air of the Hromadske Radio.

According to Getman, when the anti-aircraft missile flies up as close to the aircraft as possible, it explodes in the air.

"The explosion is directed precisely in the direction of the aircraft. After the explosion of anti-aircraft missile, the holes are made and the aircraft is destroyed," added the expert.

We remind you, in the evening of 14 January, the Ukrainian military hit the Russian Il-22 aircraft. The head of the Main Directorate of intelligence of the Ministry of defence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov noted that this aircraft was able to make an emergency landing in Anapa.

The speaker of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ignat, commenting on the damage to this aircraft, noted that it could not be restored. At the same time, he added that if the Il-22 was on fire, there might be wounded among the crew.
