Panic started in Moscow because of UAVs.
On the night of January 18, explosions were heard in the Moscow suburbs.
This is reported by the Ukrainian media.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that a drone was shot down over Podolsk by Russian air defence. He wrote about this on his Telegram.
According to Sobyanin, the UAV was flying towards Moscow.
"Tonight air defence forces in the Podolsk urban district repelled an attack by a drone flying towards Moscow. There is no destruction or casualties at the site of the falling debris, according to preliminary data. Specialists of the emergency services are working at the scene," said the Russian official.
Also videos from Podolsk, where the sounds of explosions can be heard, have appeared online.
According to the Russian SHOT Telegram channel, there were two "bangs" at about 01:05 a.m. local time.
"According to our information, the explosions occurred at 1:05 a.m. and were heard in different parts of the town. The drone flying towards Moscow was destroyed, there were no casualties or damage on the ground," it said.
The Russian Defence Ministry said that air defence systems shot down one drone over the territory of Moscow Region, and another was intercepted over the territory of Leningrad Region.
Explosions in St. Petersburg
Residents of Vasilyevsky Island in St. Petersburg heard explosions from the Gulf of Finland overnight.
The Russian Defence Ministry reported that "a drone was shot down in Leningrad region".
"A UAV was shot down in St Petersburg near Kanonersky Island. The Dome plan was announced," the report said.
