The strike was special.
Ukrainian strikes on the temporarily occupied Crimea in late December 2023 sent the Russian corvette of the "Tarantul" type to bottom. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) analysts said this in a daily report.
"Ukrainian partisans and satellite images confirmed that Ukrainian strikes in occupied Crimea sent the Russian Tarantul-type corvette to bottom near Sevastopol in late December 2023," the report said.
On January 18, the Atesh partisan movement reported the discovery of the wrecked Tarantul-type corvette in Sevastopol's Grafskaya Bay. According to satellite data provided by the partisans, the ship sank between the 28th and 31st of December 2023.
According to statements by Russian and occupation authorities in Crimea, the Russian military allegedly repelled Ukrainian air and sea drone strikes in Sevastopol on December 29 and 30, 2023.
"This confirmation of a previously unknown successful Ukrainian strike indicates that Ukraine's recent strike campaign against occupied Crimea may have been more successful than has been confirmed by open sources," the ISW analysts said.
The Institute for the Study of War added that the Ukrainian military carried out a successful strike against Russia's Black Sea Fleet in the summer of 2023, forcing the occupiers to withdraw the ships from their main base in Sevastopol.
Atesh partisans reported that the Tarantul-type patrol ship, which sank in Sevastopol, was stolen by the Russians in 2014. This vessel was actively used by the enemy for combat purposes.
"The fate of the ship was not easy, we hope this is where it will end," reported the underground.
We remind you, on January 18, the Ukrainian underground announced about the discovery of a sunk border patrol ship of the 205P "Tarantul" project in Sevastopol. According to the partisans, the vessel could have been hit during an attack by maritime UAVs on military facilities of the Russian Armed Forces a few weeks ago.
