The MID disclosed the details of the operation.
In August 2023 Ukrainian scouts destroyed three TU-22M3 bombers on the territory of the Russian Federation, however, returning to the Ukrainian-controlled territory, the reconnaissance group was ambushed and suffered losses. This was reported by the press service of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Defence Ministry of Ukraine.
It is reported that the reconnaissance team travelled more than 600 kilometres on foot through enemy territory. Having penetrated deep into the rear, the scouts completely destroyed the Russian bomber TU-22M3 and seriously damaged two more.
According to the MID, the operation to disable the above-mentioned aircraft significantly disrupted the plans of the military and political leadership of the aggressor country on shelling Ukraine, because as a result the work of airfields and long-range aviation bases was destabilised.
According to the information of the intelligence agency, Colonel Oleg Babiy was killed during the operation.
"We received a super important task - to stop numerous airstrikes on peaceful cities of Ukraine. The task was fulfilled. However, for Oleg Babiy - the commander who was covering the retreat of others, it turned out to be the last," stated the message.
The MID stressed that there are nine successful reconnaissance trips to the rear of the enemy, twelve special measures to organise and ensure the movement of resistance in the rear of the enemy, as well as identifying up to 70 important strategic objects of the Russian Federation on the account of Oleg Babiy.
Oleg Babiy was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Gold Star. He left a wife and two small children.

We remind you that on August 19, the Soltsy military airfield in Russia's Novgorod region was attacked by UAVs. The press service of the Russian Defence Ministry reported one damaged aircraft. At the same time, local media said that at least two Tu-22M3 bombers were damaged at the aerodrome.

The journalists pointed out that the photos made public on the web showed a completely burnt-out Tu-22M3.
