25-Year-Old Truck Driver From Mahiliou Goes Missing In Russia

His truck was found empty on the highway.

On the night of January 3, in the Irkutsk region of Russia, on the Siberia highway, police noticed a Mercedes truck. What interested them was that the cabin was open, but there was no driver. A truck driver from Mahiliou, 25-year-old Dzmitry Bakhankou, disappeared without a trace. Now both police and volunteers in Russia and Belarus are looking for him, writes nashaniva.com.

Russian police report: video recordings show that the truck last passed near the village of Ukhtui, Ziminsky district, on January 1.

The Instagram page “Truckers of Belarus” reports that the truck was not broken into, all documents for the cargo remained in place, but the driver’s mobile phone and passport were missing.

Videos dedicated to the search for Dzmitry are also being circulated on TikTok. A blogger under the nickname varvarabi2 reports that the young man worked at the Cargo Line Smolensk company. She says that back on December 31, the guy got in touch with his family and said that he planned to leave on the evening of January 1, and on January 4 he was supposed to unload in Mongolia.

“He wasn’t into alcoholic drinks, theoretically he could just celebrate the New Year and go to bed, because time allowed him — but this is unknown,” says the girl.

She adds that Dzmitry told his family that he traveled 1,800 kilometers in 27 hours and slept only 2 hours. According to the truck driver, he had 279 kilometers left to Irkutsk, he sent a video from the parking lot where he stopped — there is a cafe there. The Russian Investigative Committee has already interviewed people there, but has not yet received any new information. From this parking lot to the place where the truck was eventually found is 70 kilometers.

— Dzmitry was pleased that the road was long — before that he constantly traveled short distances. He said that the road to Irkutsk is very beautiful. Before that, he traveled a lot around Russia. This is his first long trip, but he has been working for Cargo Line Smolensk for about a year.

The blogger clarifies: Dzmitry is not married, he doesn’t have a girlfriend either, and he didn’t have any conflicts with anyone on the eve of his disappearance.

Simultaneously with the video about the disappearance of Dzmitry Bakhankou, a video went viral on TikTok, where another truck driver in Russia says that there is an empty truck in the parking lot, and its Belarusian driver died. Many are beginning to think that this was about Dzmitry. But that story is more than a year old: in December 2022, Yauhen Dvarakou, also a truck driver from Mahiliou, disappeared — a month later he was found dead.
