The U.S. intelligence data has been published.
The Chinese army, like the Russian one, may have become the victim of the Killer No.1 – this is what experts called corruption 10 years ago.
The myth of the "second army of the world" was dispelled soon after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine: the funds were stolen, they engaged the tanks of the 1950s and 1960s for combat operations and switched to purchasing shells in North Korea, 1.5 million sets of military uniforms have gone somewhere.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has set the goal of turning the Armed Forces of China into a “world-class” army by 2027, but U.S. intelligence data raises doubts that this task is feasible.
A large-scale personnel purge in the leadership of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) is associated with revealed facts of corruption, which turned out to be so great that it nullified Xi's efforts to modernize the army and even called into question China's ability to wage war, according to the findings of US intelligence Bloomberg.
Examples include missiles filled with water instead of fuel, also missiles that are impossible to launch because of broken gates. Missile troops are the most blatant example, but the entire defence industry is affected by corruption, Bloomberg sources say.
The scope is really huge and the U.S. considers it unlikely that China will embark on a serious military clash in the coming years.
Over the past six months, more than 10 high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Defence have been caught on bribes – Bloomberg calls this probably the largest military purge in the modern history of China.
The leaders of the Ministry of Defence and the Navy, as well as the command of the missile forces, resigned. The last resignations took place at the end of December: five were from the missile forces and two from a weapon development department of the nine dismissed. The heads of three state missile manufacturers were also removed. This is just what was officially announced.
The position of Xi has not weakened, Bloomberg notes: on the contrary, numerous resignations, including those promoted by him, show the level of the control over the situation.
Missile forces have a key role to play in the event of an invasion of Taiwan. Xi called reunification with Taiwan a historical necessity during his speech on New Year's Eve. According to U.S. intelligence, Xi instructed the military to prepare to establish military control over Taiwan by 2027. This is the centenary of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), by which it should become a world-class army.
