Over the past three years, 2219 Ukrainian children from the territories under Russian occupation have been taken to Belarus. This was discussed at a briefing of the International Group of Human Rights Organisations, which includes the ZMINA Human Rights Centre.

At that, the Belarusian state identifies Ukrainian children in Belarus as ‘Russian’ and recognises the Russian citizenship imposed on them.

Human rights activists also found evidence of involving Ukrainian children in paramilitary youth organisations in Belarus. Service in the armed forces of Russia is also promoted among children.

Human rights activists note that the figure of 2,219 children taken to Belarus is incomplete, as it includes only those cases, for which there is convincing evidence.
