New Variant Of Coronavirus Detected In Belarus

This variant was first discovered in Germany.

A variant of XEC coronavirus has been detected in Belarus, reported the Ministry of Health with reference to Deputy Minister and Chief State Sanitary Inspector Sviatlana Niachai. In September, this particular variant of the coronavirus had not yet been present in the country, if one believes the data of the Ministry of Health.

One of the patients in Belarus has been diagnosed with a variant of XEC coronavirus.

According to the Ministry of Health, this variant was first detected in Germany in June 2024. XEC cases have been recorded in the UK, USA, Denmark and other countries. XEC appeared as a result of recombination of two variants of FLIRT omicron.

Specialists of the Research Institute of Hygiene, Toxicology, Epidemiology, Virology and Microbiology of the Republican Centre for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health are constantly monitoring the emergence of new variants of the coronavirus.
