Belarus Loses Another Place In Rule Of Law Ranking

Venezuela closes the ranking.

Belarus was ranked 105th in the Rule of Law Rating, which is annually compiled by World Justice Porject. Compared to the previous version of the rating, our country has lost one position.

Eight indicators are taken into account in forming the rating: from the limitation of the authorities' powers, openness of the government to the assessment of civil and criminal justice. Belarus has the worst positions in terms of limiting the powers of the authorities (138th place out of 142 countries), government openness (134th place), fundamental rights (129th place). The best positions are in the ‘order and security’ indicator (39th place).

A sharp decline in the position of Belarus in the rating occurred at the end of 2020. In the rating-2021, our country fell from 68th to 97th place. Belarus had the best result in 2015, when it was placed in 48th place.

Russia took 113th place in this year's ranking, Ukraine - 88th, Poland - 33rd, Lithuania - 18th and Latvia - 21st.

Denmark topped this year's ranking, with Norway in second place and Finland in third. Also Sweden, Germany, New Zealand, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Ireland and Estonia are in the top ten.

Venezuela closes the ranking, with Cambodia, Afghanistan, Haiti, Myanmar and Nicaragua just above it.
