Is Lukashenka In A Hurry Because Of His Health?

The dictator is getting worse.

Political scientist Valer Karbalevich believes that Lukashenka is in a hurry to hold the "elections" on January 26, 2025, because of his deteriorating health. He expressed this opinion in an article for Radio Liberty:

"It can be assumed that another factor has a much greater influence on the possible plans for holding early "elections." Namely, Aliaksandr Lukashenka's health problems. It is getting even worse, as he himself is forced to admit.

Therefore, the sooner the "elections" are held, the better for him. After all, the appearance of the main candidate is an important element of the PR campaign. And six months is a long time in this regard: it is unknown what can happen during this period.

Recall that dictator Lukashenka has been usurping the post of President of Belarus since 1994. He is currently serving his sixth consecutive term. Lukashenka announced plans to run again in the upcoming "elections" in February, although after the adoption of amendments to the Constitution in 2020, he promised that he would not hold this post again.
