White House Advised Against Allowing Ukrainian Armed Forces To Strike Deep Into Russia

As an unnamed American official told the publication, the Pentagon and intelligence recommendations stated that lifting the restrictions would not have a strategic impact and would not change the course of the war. They also emphasized that such a decision would have more disadvantages than benefits.

In particular, the Pentagon and intelligence remind that Russia has moved more than 90% of its aircraft beyond the ATACMS range, so it is “wrong to claim” that this will solve the problem of strikes on Ukraine with guided air bombs.

Another reason is that Ukraine does not have a sufficient number of ATACMS missiles. At the same time, the US cannot provide such weapons from its stockpiles, since the supplies will lead to damage to the combat readiness of the American armed forces.

The source added that it would be irresponsible for Washington not to take into account Russia's possible response, since it is a “nuclear power capable of doing very bad things to both Ukraine and the United States”.
