American billionaire and inventor Elon Musk has been in regular contact with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin since the end of 2022. Their conversations concern personal topics, business and geopolitical tensions.

This is reported by the American newspaper of The Wall Street Journal, citing ‘several current and former’ officials of the United States, Europe and the Russian Federation. According to the article, Musk, ‘the richest man in the world and the linchpin of US space efforts,’ has been in regular contact with the Kremlin chief for about two years.

At one point, Putin asked him not to activate his Starlink satellite internet service over Taiwan as a favour to Chinese leader Xi Jinping, two people informed about the request told the publication.

In addition, the newspaper said, Musk has shown himself to be a crucial supporter of Donald Trump's 2024 campaign and could find a role for himself in the Republican's administration if he wins.

‘While the U.S. and its allies have isolated Putin in recent years, Musk's dialogue could signal a renewed engagement with the Russian leader and reinforce Trump's expressed desire to cut a deal on major fault lines such as the war in Ukraine,’ The WSJ wrote.
