Erdogan Announces Details Of Closed Meeting With Putin At BRICS Summit

The Turkish President noticed Moscow's unusual “aspiration”.

As part of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Turkish President Recep Erdogan held a closed meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, during which he discussed the issue of exchanging prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine, and allegedly saw Moscow's desire for a “ceasefire”.

The Turkish president said this in a comment to a pool of journalists on board his plane, returning from Kazan, Russia, to Turkey, the Anadolu news agency reports.

The journalists asked Erdogan: “Have you noticed Putin's new desire to end this war?”

“As during my meeting with the President of Ukraine, Mr. (Volodymyr — edit.) Zelensky, in Türkevi (the building of the Permanent Mission of Turkey to the UN — edit.) in America, we saw that Putin was also striving to achieve a sustainable ceasefire. Our Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed this during their meeting in Istanbul,” the Turkish president said, commenting on the meeting with Putin at BRICS.

In addition, according to Erdogan, he discussed with dictator Putin the issues of resuming the Black Sea Grain Corridor and demining.

“In addition to the activation of the Black Sea Grain Corridor and demining, during our meeting yesterday [October 24] with Putin and his delegation, we also saw expectations regarding the exchange of prisoners. We are currently closely following the steps for the exchange of prisoners (…) This war will definitely end, our desire is to end it without unnecessary blood and tears,” Erdogan said.

According to the Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidential Administration, the meeting between Erdogan and Putin lasted about an hour. Moreover, the Turkish president invited the Russian dictator to visit Turkey, and also promised to make efforts to resolve the problems of bank payments between the two countries.
