Mark Rutte declared the escalation.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has confirmed the involvement of the aggressor country Russia in the war against Ukraine. He said this at a briefing on Monday, October 28, writes New Voice.

According to him, North Korean soldiers are going to fight in Kursk region.

‘This in itself means a significant escalation in the war,’ Rutte said.

The use of DPRK military forces in Kursk region takes place against the backdrop of heavy losses of the occupiers' army, the secretary general points out. He considers such actions a sign of dictator Vladimir Putin's desperation.

Rutte added that NATO allies will continue to fight for Ukraine's freedom and are discussing additional military support for Kyiv.

Rutte said that in the morning of October 28, a delegation from the Republic of Korea informed the NATO North Atlantic Council and other partners in the Indo-Pacific region - Australia, Japan and New Zealand - about North Korea's growing involvement in Russia's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine.

‘Allies have also shared their intelligence assessments. Today I can confirm that North Korean troops have been sent to Russia and that North Korean military units have been deployed in Kursk region,’ Rutte said.

He said the involvement of the DPRK military was ‘yet another violation of UN Security Council resolutions’ as well as ‘a dangerous expansion of Russia's war.’

‘NATO calls on Russia and the DPRK to stop these actions immediately. The deepened military co-operation between Russia and North Korea poses a threat to both Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic security. It undermines peace on the Korean peninsula and fuels Russia's war against Ukraine,’ the NATO secretary-general added.

Rutte reminded that Pyongyang has already supplied Russia with ‘millions of munitions and ballistic missiles that are fuelling a major conflict in the heart of Europe and undermining global peace and security.’ ‘In return, Putin is providing North Korea with military technology and other support to circumvent international sanctions. This emphasises the importance of democracies uniting to stand up for our values and confront our shared security challenges. However, sending North Korean troops to Kursk is also a sign of Putin's growing desperation,’ he said.

The secretary-general specified that more than 600,000 Russian soldiers have already been killed or wounded in Putin's war. ‘He is unable to continue his offensive in Ukraine without foreign support. That's because Ukrainians are fighting with courage, resilience and ingenuity. NATO allies will continue to support a free and democratic Ukraine because Ukraine's security is our security. Today we discussed the need to further strengthen military support for Ukraine. We are actively consulting within the Alliance, with Ukraine and with our partners in the Indo-Pacific on these issues. And we continue to monitor the situation closely,’ Rutte added.
