Opposition Supporters Rally Outside Georgian Parliament Building

Protesters are holding flags of the European Union and Ukraine.

In Georgia, opposition supporters are holding a rally against the results of the parliamentary elections, which the ruling Georgian Dream party allegedly won.

The protest is taking place in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi. Some of those gathered are holding flags of the European Union and Ukraine. Traffic along Rustaveli Avenue is blocked.

On October 26, Georgia held regular parliamentary elections. According to their results, the majority (53.92% of the votes) was allegedly won by the Georgian Dream, which has ruled the country for 12 years and which the opposition accuses of changing the course from European integration to a pro-Russian one.

In addition, the opposition parties have overcome the 5% threshold for entering parliament. The Coalition for Change gained 11.03%, Unity — National Movement — 10.16%, Strong Georgia — 8.81%, For Georgia — 7.77%.

All of them refused to recognize the results of the vote. Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili also spoke out against the election results. She, together with former President of the country Mikheil Saakashvili, called for protests.
