Putin's Residence In Sochi Demolished

There is now a pit in its place.

In early 2024, the main building of the Russian presidential residence “Bocharov Ruchey” was demolished in Sochi (Russia). Now there is a pit in its place, around which construction equipment is working, writes “Agency” with a reference to the investigation of “Proekt”.

The demolition of the main building began in February 2024. It was completed in March. There were no official reports of any work at the residence.

Moreover, Putin held one official meeting after the start of the demolition of the residence: on March 6, 2024, the president met with the head of the IAEA Rafael Grossi. The meeting was covered in state media, a report on it was published on the official website of the Kremlin.

Putin held a meeting with Grossi in another building of the complex, which is located near the edge of the residence, in a special reception house, which was built for Putin's official meetings in 2014, since, according to Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov, the main building “was not functionally satisfactory in every way”. The new “office building” was called “Bocharov Ruchey-2” — it now houses a press center and a conference room, in which Putin holds official meetings.

Putin held a significant number of events in “Bocharov Ruchey-2”: since 2014, this building has regularly hosted meetings with the Ministry of Defense and representatives of the military-industrial complex, but the tradition was interrupted by the war — in 2022, the meetings were no longer held.

The previous time the historic building of the Sochi residence was renovated was before the Olympic Games, as evidenced by satellite images available in the Google Earth application. The building's roof and adjoining territory were changed, and a gazebo appeared. There was no official announcement about the reconstruction of the residence in those years either.

In 2017, a special railway line was built to the Bocharov Ruchey residence, Proekt wrote. It could have been used if Putin had arrived there on his own armored train.
