Russian Federation said there was an ‘unprecedented’ cyberattack on Putin's birthday.
The Russian Federation reported an ‘unprecedented’ cyberattack on Russian state TV channels, which took place on October 7.
Analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) wrote about it in their report. In particular, the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company said that unknown people hacked into its online services during an ‘unprecedented’ attack, while the pro-Kremlin Russian publication of Gazeta reported that the attack halted the broadcasting of Rossiya-1, Rossiya-24, Rossiya Kultura, Karusel and about 80 other regional TV and radio stations.
The report notes that the hackers used a type of encryption virus that deletes files rather than simply encrypting them. Because of this, the Kremlin's Russian voicers will have to restore backups of their systems.
Even Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reacted to the cyberattack. He regarded it as an attack on Russia's critical infrastructure.
