They do not know how to fight in such a climate and geography.
The participation of the DPRK military in the war in Ukraine will not cause significant changes, they will only suffer great losses. This opinion was expressed by the commander of the Intelligence Center of the Ministry of Defence of Estonia Ants Kiviselg, ERR reports.
He noted that most likely, the North Korean military arrived in the Russian Federation in early October, where they underwent training in the Eastern Military District, which lasted 2-4 weeks. Then, according to Ants Kiviselg, sending them to the war in Ukraine began, so the first units with the DPRK troops should be at the front in the near future.
According to Ants Kiviselg, North Korean soldiers usually learn to fight in mountainous terrain, so Ukraine is an unfamiliar climate and geography for them.
"The training they undergo in the Russian Federation is not of a very high level. Therefore, we can expect that North Korean troops will suffer significant losses in Ukraine, probably even greater than the Russians,"Kiviselg predicted and added that North Korea will continue to send more soldiers to the war.
In addition, an Estonian intelligence official noted that the deployment of North Korean forces will not lead to major changes in the front line in the near future. “But, if additional deployment continues in Russia, where they are trained and then arrive at the front line, in the long term it can certainly lead to changes,” Kiviselg said.
"North Korea has promised Russia up to 12,000 troops, including 500 officers and three generals. The arrival of North Korean soldiers on the Ukrainian front will probably take place in stages," Kiviselg said.
