Efficiency is only 20%.
After the permission of the United States, the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the first time in history attacked a military facility on the territory of Russia with ATACMS ballistic missiles.
Did the Russians manage to prepare for such attacks? The Charter97.org website spoke about this with military expert, co-director of foreign policy and international security programs of the Razumkov Center in Kyiv Oleksiy Melnyk:
— There is no objective control data, satellite images, so it is difficult to assess the damage there. If earlier there were videos from local residents, then recently the Russian special services have been working quite seriously in this regard. The information that is available at the moment is quite limited.
Yes, there is the fact of hitting, and I think it makes sense to trust American intelligence data more than Russian sources. According to US intelligence, 6 out of 8 missiles reached the target.
Regarding the reaction and the damage caused, I do not exclude that some part of the ammunition, especially valuable ammunition, was moved out in advance. That is, it cannot be done within hours or even days after the announcement of Biden's decision. Most likely, after those strikes that were on the arsenals in previous months, the most valuable ammunition tried to hide deeper, concentrate on smaller depots.
— What can be said about the effectiveness of these missiles, if the Russians have some antidote against them?
— The object that was attacked is not just an ammunition depot, it is a powerful arsenal. If the S-400s really stood there, and today it seems to be one of the few Russian systems that is capable of intercepting ballistic missiles (with all the perfection of ATACMS), then 80% efficiency is a very high indicator.
If we look, Ukraine shoots down about 80% of missiles, and here it turns out that the effectiveness of Russian air defense is only 20%, this is a serious difference.
