A 20-year-old resident of Vitsebsk has been tried for ‘insulting’ Aliaksandr Lukashenka. Details of the criminal case were reported in the prosecutor's office, writes ‘Zerkalo’.

.

According to the supervisory agency, ‘one day in June,’ the man tried to put money into his account through an infokiosk. He failed to carry out the operation.

‘Getting angry, he came home, using his mobile phone, called an employee of the Belarusbank contact centre and during the conversation made negative remarks about the President of the Republic of Belarus,’ reported the prosecutor's office, adding that the words of the accused were ‘humiliating’, ‘undermined the authority’ of Lukashenka, his ‘personal and professional qualities’.

The employee of Belarusbank forwarded the details of the conversation to the management. The latter - to law enforcement officers. As a result, the man was prosecuted under Part 1 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code (insulting Lukashenka).

The Vitsebsk resident pleaded guilty in court. He explained his actions by ‘strong emotional state’.

The court found him guilty and sent him to the colony of general regime for a year and three months. His phone was also confiscated ‘as a means of committing an offence’.
