Russian Spacecraft Arriving At ISS Emits Unpleasant Odor

During another mission to deliver cargo to the International Space Station, an incident occurred that caused serious concern.

After opening the hatch of the Russian cargo ship Progress, the cosmonauts smelled a sharp toxic odor and discovered strange droplets, writes Arstechnica.

To prevent the spread of an unknown substance, the crew was forced to urgently isolate the contaminated module. The cosmonauts working in the Russian segment of the station were equipped with protective suits, and the air purification systems were switched to an enhanced mode. American astronauts also smelled an unusual odor, comparable to the smell of spray paint.

According to NASA, the situation at the station is gradually stabilizing, and the air quality is returning to normal. However, experts note that the incident could have had serious consequences for the health of the crew.

The reasons for the toxic odor remain unknown.

There have been previous cases of leaks on Russian cargo ships, raising additional concerns.

This incident once again highlights the problems that the Russian space program has faced in recent years. Financial difficulties and personnel changes caused by the war in Ukraine have negatively affected the reliability of spacecraft and the safety of crews.
