General Known For Failed Planning, Huge Losses Appointed To Command Russian Ground Forces

Putin has signed the decree.

Several sources reported about appointing Colonel-General Rustam Muradov to the post of the first deputy commander-in-chief of the ground forces of the Russian Defence Ministry. Magomed Kurbanov, the head of Tabasar district of the Republic of Dagestan of the Russian Federation, was the first to report this. Then the message was picked up by Z-channels, writes The Insider.

According to Kurbanov, the relevant decree was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, but it is not yet on the portal of official legal information. The appointment came as a big surprise to Russian military bloggers, judging by the violent reaction, as Muradov's surname has become a household name during the fighting in Ukraine. ‘Muradovshchina’ is what the military calls a poorly organised offensive by dense mechanised columns without engineering reconnaissance and artillery support.

Muradov organised precisely such an offensive during the battles for Pavlivka in November 2022 and the assault on Vuhledar in February 2023. At that time, Russian troops suffered huge losses in personnel and hardware. Muradov was blamed for stupid tactical decisions, irresponsibility, arrogance and incompetence.

In November 2022, an appeal by infantrymen of the 155th Independent Guards Marine Brigade to the head of Russia's Primorye region, Oleg Kozhemyako, was published in which they accused ‘General Muradov and his fellow countryman Akhmedov’ of throwing them into an ‘incomprehensible offensive’ against the village of Pavlivka near Vuhledar. The purpose of these actions was allegedly to obtain ‘bonuses’ and ranks, and the result was reportedly more than 300 dead Russian servicemen.

In April 2023, it was reported that Muradov had been dismissed as commander of Russia's Eastern Military District. This information was soon confirmed, since then three commanders of the Eastern Military District have been replaced. It is now headed by the fourth - Lieutenant General Andrei Ivanaev.
