The businessman has already given away $16 million in ‘swing’ states.
On November 4, a Pennsylvania court allowed Elon Musk to give away $1 million each to a ‘randomly selected’ voter who signed an America PAC petition pledging to support the right to free speech and the right to bear arms, Reuters reported.
One day before the US presidential election, which will feature a battle between Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican nominee Donald Trump, lawyers for the pro-Trump America PAC convinced Judge Angelo Folietta that the contest was not an ‘illegal lottery,’ as the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office claimed.
And lawyers for America PAC and committee director Chris Young said the funds were distributed based on which voters would best represent the pro-Trump position - despite Musk's previous assurances that the winners of the contest would be chosen at random.
Folietta rejected Krasner's request in a brief written ruling and said he would outline his arguments later.
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner (a Democratic representative), filed a lawsuit on October 28 - to block the contest in Pennsylvania. He argued that the payouts amounted to an illegal lottery with vaguely defined rules, and during the court filing said he would also seek financial penalties for America PAC.
The America PAC launched the contest on October 19. It is open to registered voters in seven key swing states - Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin - who must sign a petition pledging to support free speech and gun rights.
Musk has already handed out $16 million to registered voters in ‘swing’ states, according to reporters.
America PAC officials announced the winner from Arizona on November 4 and said the final winner from Michigan will be announced on Election Day, November 5.
On October 20, Elon Musk announced that he would pay $1 million each day until the presidential election to a randomly selected voter who signed an America PAC (the committee he created to support Donald Trump) petition pledging to support the right to free speech and the right to bear arms.
