WSJ: US Sending Ukraine More Than 500 Patriot And NASAMS Interceptor Missiles

The deliveries should cover the need for air defence systems by the end of this year.

The US is sending Ukraine more than 500 interceptor missiles for the Patriot missile defence system and the NASAMS air defence system.

According to The Wall Street Journal, citing US officials, the missiles should arrive in Ukraine in the coming weeks.

According to one of the officials, these deliveries should cover Ukraine's need for air defence systems by the end of this year.

It is noted that before the elections, the US intended to deliver the remaining aid to Ukraine by April. Now, the Biden administration intends to transfer as much military aid to Kyiv as possible by January, hoping to thereby provide Ukraine with a stronger negotiating position and strengthen its defence.

The publication notes that more than $7 billion allocated to the Pentagon for the transfer of weapons and ammunition from its stockpiles to Ukraine currently remain unspent, as do more than $2 billion intended to finance long-term contracts for the supply of weapons to Kyiv.
