EU To Discuss Closing Russian Bases With Syrian Rebels

Kaja Kallas revealed the details.

The European Union will raise the issue of closing Russian bases in Syria. This is related to the influence that Russia has.

This was stated by the EU chief diplomat Kaja Kallas, reports Politico.

She noted that the topic of closing the RF bases in Tartus and Khmeimimi in Syria was raised by a number of foreign ministers of the EU countries. They will talk about it already during initial contacts with rebel forces.

‘A lot of foreign ministers have picked this up to say that, you know, it should be a condition for the new leadership to get rid of Russian influence there as well, because it's a base from which they (Russia - ed.) also operate in relation to Africa and southern neighbours. So we will raise this issue with the leadership when we have meetings,’ Kallas said after a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
