Britain May Send Troops To Ukraine

The British Defence Secretary named the goals.

Ukraine has entered a critical period of war

Britain needs to "make training better suited to what the Ukrainians need." This opinion was voiced by Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom John Healey during his visit to Kyiv.

Thus, he "opened the door" to sending British troops to Ukraine to help train Ukrainian soldiers, The Telegraph reports.

"We need to make it easier for the Ukrainians to access it and work with the Ukrainians to help them motivate and mobilize more recruits," he said.

When asked whether this meant the start of exercises involving British troops on Ukrainian territory, Healey said: "We will look where we can to respond to what the Ukrainians want. They are fighting."

By putting forward such a proposal, the minister became the first government representative who dared to take such a step.

According to Healey, Kyiv should enter into negotiations "from a position of strength, not weakness."

He put forward this view as he announced a new £225 million aid package for Ukraine, and stressed that the country was under increasing pressure to enter peace talks with Russia.

In turn, according to Healey, Ukraine needs to continue to build its capacity to combat and deter Putin.

Announcing the support package, Healey said: “Nearly three years since Putin launched his illegal, full-scale invasion, the depth of his miscalculations is clearer than ever, as the brave people of Ukraine continue to defy all expectations with their unbreakable spirit. But they cannot act alone, which is why the UK will step up our international leadership on Ukraine throughout 2025.”

In addition, the UK Defence Secretary acknowledged in comments to LBC on Thursday that this is “a critical time for Ukraine”.

"The Russians are putting pressure on Ukraine on the front lines, but Putin himself is showing signs of weakness by calling in North Korean troops to bolster his own army, abandoning Assad and failing to defend his own positions in Syria," he concluded.
